Funding Support
The establishment of the Institute was made possible in part by a generous bequest by local businessman Mr Cas Van der Veer to the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation (CMRF). The primary purpose of the bequest was to support research into and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
These causes were further advanced by the active involvement and financial support of the Christchurch School of Medicine & Health Sciences (University of Otago), the Canterbury District Health Board, and the University of Canterbury. Together with the CMRF, these organisations worked together to establish the Institute as a collaborative endeavour.
