Introduction
The Van der Veer Institute for Parkinson’s & Brain Research is a partnership between the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC), the University of Canterbury (UoC), the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) and the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation (CMRF).
The Institute is based in Van der Veer Institute but also comprises members - researchers , students, and collaborators - based in institutions elsewhere in Christchurch, New Zealand, and overseas. There are currently 149 members of the Institute, engaged in 69 active research projects.
The research in the Institute is organised into two divisions, the Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders Division, directed by Tim Anderson, and the Brain Research Division, directed by Richard Jones.
The Institute is involved in a range of MRI research under the direction of Richard Watts. This research utilises the Christchurch Radiology Group's 3T HDx MRI scanner.
